In a small AO2 SKIN study conducted with NC State University, skin biopsies from five volunteers were taken before and 30 and 60 minutes after topical oxygen nanobubbles. HIF-1α, a marker of low oxygen in cells, decreased significantly, and markers of the skin’s own antioxidant defense response (NQO1 and HO-1) increased.
